Alberto welcomes the news that the Stoney Staton Flood Alleviation Scheme has received significant funding boost.
Alberto Costa MP was pleased to receive notification from the flood Minister Emma Hardy, that the Stoney Stanton Flood Alleviation Scheme will receive additional funding from central government of over £200,000. Mr Costa has repeatedly written to the government following recent flooding calling for greater support for his constituents. |
Mr Costa said, “I’m glad that the government has recognised that the Stoney Stanton Flood Alleviation Scheme, which has already been given just under £90,000 in funding, is a vital scheme to help reduce the impact of flooding on residents of Stoney Stanton.”
Having visited residents affected by the 2019 flooding (an event that prompted the development of this scheme), Mr. Costa is confident it will be warmly welcomed by the local community. The South Leicestershire MP has witnessed firsthand the remarkable resilience of his constituents in the face of such challenges. However, he acknowledges that more work remains to be done.
Mr Costa concludes, “I acknowledge the hard work of Leicestershire County Council in advancing the Stoney Stanton Flood Alleviation Scheme since the 2019 floods, as well as for their commendable work during the recent flooding events. However, I recognise that more action is needed. I will continue to press the government to ensure that stringent rules are put in place to prevent inappropriate developments that could heighten flood risks in my constituency.”
