Alberto visits Royal British Legion branch

South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, has visited the Broughton Astley branch of the Royal British Legion to meet members, thank them for their service and engage in a question and answer session.

Alberto attended the branch’s monthly meeting in order to meet members of the local Royal British Legion branch and discuss their experiences of serving in the armed forces. Mr Costa also answered questions from the floor about veterans issues and prosecutions of soldiers serving in Northern Ireland.

Alberto said, “I was delighted to attend the monthly meeting of the Royal British Legion in Broughton Astley recently. The RBL are a wonderful organisation who do a tremendous amount for our ex-servicemen and women, and of course, they provide an excellent environment for ex-service personnel to meet at a friendly, social event”.

Mr Chris Shuter, Chairman of the Royal British Legion Broughton Astley branch, added, “The Broughton Astley Branch of the Royal British Legion hosted a visit from our MP, the Right Honourable Alberto Costa, at our monthly meeting in the Conservative Club. Alberto addressed the meeting with an update on his work and followed this with a question and answer session. Some challenging questions were put and interesting answers emerged on matters that are of concern to veterans and those serving in our Armed Forces. The Branch members enjoyed the chance to engage with our MP and look forward to maintaining a close relationship in the future.”

Alberto concluded, “I am really pleased to have so many active and social clubs and organisations for veterans in South Leicestershire. These brave men and women have served with distinction in our armed forces, and it was a real pleasure to spend some time with them, discussing their experiences and discussing the hot topics of the day. I recently asked a question at Defence Questions in the House of Commons on veterans services in the East Midlands, and I will continue to press this matter at the highest level to ensure the Government gives veterans the support they need and deserve”.
