On World Book Day, South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, launched a Short Story Competition for primary school children across the constituency, to encourage young minds to embrace creativity and develop a love for storytelling.
As usual, World Book Day, brought joy to young people across the country, with thousands of primary school children dressing up as their favourite fictional characters on a day that promoted the joy of reading.
Highlighting the power of reading for pleasure, Mr. Costa emphasised that research shows it is the single most significant predictor of a child’s future success, surpassing even family background, parental education, or income.
Mr. Costa said:
“Reading and storytelling are activities that bring great joy to young people, but they are also valuable for aiding brain development. I wound encourage all primary schools and children in South Leicestershire to get involved and take the opportunity to showcase their imagination by taking part in the Short Story Competition I’m running.”
