Alberto asked Prime Minister about Colin Pitchfork in Prime Ministers Questions today. The convicted double child rapist and murderer, responsible for the brutal rape and murder of two young women, is now facing his fifth parole hearing, prompting renewed debate over justice and public safety.
In a pointed question to the Prime Minister, Alberto said:
“Double child rapist and murderer Colin Pitchfork is up for parole for the fifth time. Now, I know the Prime Minister doesn’t have any direct control, nor should he, over the Parole Board, but he does have a view, as I’ve asked all his predecessors. I now put the question to him: Does he agree with me that men who brutally rape and strangle to death young women should, as a matter of principle, spend most of their natural life in prison?”
On 28th March 2025 a fact-finding hearing took take place in relation to more recent allegations against Pitchfork and on 15th and 16th May 2025 a subsequent oral hearing will consider all evidence related to Pitchfork’s potential risks, including, if the recent allegations are proven, the relevant evidence.
The Prime Minister’s response to Mr Costa’s question: “I’ve seen many of these cases for myself firsthand when I was a prosecutor for five years, working with the police on really terrible cases, and know the impact that it has on victims. I thank him for raising it.”
Mr Costa has campaigned tirelessly to keep Colin Pitchfork behind bars due to the appalling nature of his crimes and the lasting impact it has had on his constituents. He has also questioned the legal framework - the Reconsideration Mechanism - which, at present, allows for an endless cycle of appeals to be mounted by Prisoner and Secretary of State without proper closure.
