Alberto has announced the winner of his World Book Day Short Story Competition, with the top prize awarded to Hope Beal, a pupil at Danemill Primary School in Enderby.
Hope’s story, titled “The Plastic Bag”, was chosen for its creativity, originality, and powerful message about protecting the environment. The story impressed with both its imagination and its call to action.
Mr Costa visited Hope’s school to personally present her with her certificate and prize for her winning entry.
Two runners up were also recognised by Mr Costa: Aiden F and Rufus, both from Gilmorton Chandler C of E Primary School.
Mr Costa said:
"Hope’s story stood out not just for its wonderful storytelling, but for the way it engaged with a real-world issue in such a thoughtful and accessible way. She should be incredibly proud of her achievement."
The competition was launched by Mr Costa to mark World Book Day, encouraging children and young people across South Leicestershire to put pen to paper and share their own short stories. Entries from schools across the constituency arrived to the MP showcasing the remarkable talent and imagination of local young storytellers.
"Reading and writing can have a huge impact on our lives," Mr Costa added. "That’s why it’s so important to celebrate and encourage creativity, especially among our young people. I want to thank everyone who entered the competition, we received some fantastic stories from across the constituency."
